Vocabulary

preparat

Hi,

I've seen the word medical preparat in many languages but not in English. It is even similar in Croatian. It has several meanings: 1) SOME KIND OF CHEMICAL COMPOUND WHICH IS TO BE TESTED,

2) CURE, MEDICINE

3) A SAMPLE OF DEAD MAN'S BODY ON WHICH STUDENTS OF MEDICINE PRACTICE.

Do you happen to know this word in English, because I cannot find translation.

Thank you

I cannot vouch for the piece of cadaver, but otherwise, the on-line dictionaries just translate it as preparation . Since it is Latin, however, it may be fine in English as well (among medicos and pharmacists). I have a vague memory of seeing the word on a prescription once or twice.

Hello Mister Micawber,

Which word? preparat or preparation?

Preparat.

I think you can use the word without many qualms. I can find it used in English on foreign-based websites, some of them apparently highly-respected scientific organizations:
