Vocabulary

prep, sec

Hi
I was wondering whether abbreviations such as "prep" (for "preparation") or "sec" (for second) also have plural ("prepS" and "secS")
Thanks.

An abbreviation has no plural form. " Avoid using an abbreviation in the plural; spell the word out. "Prep" is an informal word, not an abbreviation, so "preps" is OK.

An abbreviation has no plural form. It's "34 sec." and "10 cc".If you want to use "sec" as in "give me a sec", then it becomes a word that forms a regular plural: "Give me a few secs, will you?" Avoid using an abbreviation in the plural; spell the word out. "Prep" is an informal word, not an abbreviation, so "preps" is OK.
