Premiere

The premiere of the film will be screened in Romuva theatre in Kaunas.

I recently read this sentence on the internet. But I was under the impression that the "screening of

the film for the first time" is itself called the premiere. So should the proper sentence be "The premiere of the film will take place in Romuva theatre in Kaunas."

Debpriya De I was under the impression that the "screening of the film for the first time" is itself called the premiere. Your impression is correct, but nothing redundant like "for the first time" is mentioned in the sentence, if that's what you're concerned about. For example, the following sentence would certainly contain the redundancy you are referring to: The premiere of the film will be screened for the first time at the Romuva Theatre in Kaunas.

But the "premiere" itself is the screening of the film. So maybe we should just say "The premiere wiil take place at the ....." instead of "The premiere will be screened at the ....."

No, it's not. You can screen a film as many times as you want. If I say that a film is going to be screened (or shown, which amounts to the same thing), you have no way of knowing whether it's a premiere or just the 58th or 149th screening.

OK. Now I think I see what you're saying. You see "premiere of a film" as "first screening of a film", so that the sentence actually says

The first screening of the film will be screened ...
