Preference: TO/RATHER THAN

A) I prefer (swimming) to (playing) Tennis.

B) I prefer (swimming) rather than (playing) Tennis.

I believe B is not correct, though I saw an example in a Grammar book like the following: I prefer starting early rather than leaving things to the last minute.
