The problem with just using the apostrophe is that when the sentence is read out loud, especially by someone who hasn't read the piece before, or by a non-native speaker, you run the risk of them saying: "This is Ross house" instead of "This is Rosses house" (note - I have chosen to spell the pronunciation of Ross's here for clarity).
