prefer that to the 5pm? What does this mean?

C: Could you come at 5 on Thursday?
S: Yes, I guess so, I am finished at 3 on Thursday.
C: Well, I also have an opening at 4 on Thursday. Would you prefer that to the 5pm?
S: Yes, I think so. I would not have to wait around. That sounds good.

So..... at last S decided to book the 4pm slot or 5pm?
A very stupid question indeed, but I am really puzzled.....

"Would you prefer that to the 5 p.m." means "would you prefer that (time slot) to the (other time slot was just discussed at) 5 p.m."

So S said she would prefer the 4 p.m. appointment time to the 5 p.m. appointment time, and they agreed to that.
