Prefer doing sth to sth

Hi, I know the structure of 'prefer' as in 'I prefer walking to driving' (-ing to -ing) or as in 'I prefer spaghetti to pizza' (noun to noun) but my question is as follows: can we mix them up as in 'I prefer playing football to basketball' (-ing to noun)??
