Do you prefer (the?) mountains or/to the sea?
Do you prefer bread or/to pieces of toast for breakfast?
I think if we use 'to' we suggest that somebody prefers something? :
Do you prefer coffee to tea?
(I think you prefer coffee)

Coincidence I think if we use 'to' we suggest that somebody prefers something? : Thank you! Well , a person can prefer someone/something to someone/something else but the same intent can be achieved by using "or" too, so there's nothing special about this.

CoincidenceI think if we use 'to' we suggest that somebody prefers something? :Well , a person can prefer someone/something to someone/something else but the same intent can be achieved by using "or" too, so there's nothing special about this.
