Would you tell me what differences between prediction and prophecy are?
Collins Cobuild dictionary defines prediction as: If you make a prediction about something, you say what you think will happen. prophecy as: A prophecy is a statement in which someone says they strongly believe that a particular thing will happen.
They seem to be almost same for me.
Top answer
Prophecy takes a prophet, and that gives it religious overtones, at the very least. Prediction is secular.

I think "prophecy" is more used in religious or unscientific predictions. A prediction is more general. You can say prophecies are predictions, but there are some predictions you can't really say they're "prophecies".
For example, the weather forecast is a prediction, but it's not a prophecy. You don't say "the weather prophecy".
