What is a predicate? Can you give me some examples? What is a complement? Can you give me some examples?

In a sentence, you have two main parts: the Subject (or doer) and the Predicate (what is said about the subject and includes the verb). The "complement" is that part in a sentence that gives more information about the subject: John is an idiot. ("an idiot" is the complement) He hoped that he could be early.

  • ("the right person for the job" is the complement) As you see, it does not include the verb.
