Predicate

Mary picked it up and then a lot of other designers did too.

In the second part of the sentence is the predicate did too or just did? If too isn't a part of predicat, please tell me its function.

'Predicate' is used in different ways by different schools. In the system I was taught many years ago ( still around today), 'Mary' is the subject of the first clause, and 'picked it up' the predicate; '[a lot of] designers' is the subject of the second clause and 'then ... did too' is the predicate.
