The following sentences, all meaning, “I prayed to God for his safe coming back”, which are correct and which are incorrect?

(a) I prayed to God that he should come back safe.



(b) I prayed to God that he might come back safe.

I think all the choices are okay, and I think you could also use any of them with "safely" rather than "safe." Another very common way to expres this thought is "I prayed to *** for his safe return."
