SCENARIO

Let's say that I am in my cubicle and one of my co-workers comes to chat with me. I need to finish my assignment for the day and I need to stop the conversation with him/her.

What are some ways to excuse myself in a very polite and diplomatic manner. I know I can say:

"Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to work/assignment."

Could someone provide me with polite phrases to excuse oneself in such situations? I would appreciate it.

Top answer

" That sounds a bit abrupt, actually. Maybe "I'm sorry, but I'm up against a deadline, and I need every minute to finish. "
