Practice of electronics companies

Almost a year ago I came upon a term, perhaps in some dictionary, defining the practice of electronics companies such as laptop makers where they miss some of the features intentionally to include in future release so that the consumer doesn't get everything altogether at one time. I no longer remember it. Could you please help me with that term?
