University has always been regarded as a means to improve and prosper for people around the world. While some are of the opinion that the sole reason of attending university is to improve job prospects, others argue that there are wider benefits to higher education that primarily aim the individual and the society as a whole.

Undoubtedly, any effort to improve in any course of action directly or indirectly seeks financial purposes, and attending university is no exception. In the highly competitive market today, people are constantly improving their knowledge and acquiring new skills to be able to find a good job. In this regard, universities provide an opportunity for people to become educated and improve their marketable skills. Employers, on the other hand, also consider tertiary education as a main factor to see if one is qualified for a job. As a good case in point, when I wanted to apply for a job at the sales department of a company, the interviewer told me that I would qualify for the job in all prospects except for the bachelor's I did not hold. Therefore, securing a good job can clearly be regarded as a main reason for university attendance.

Nevertheless, other advantages come along when a person becomes educated. To begin with, the person who begins university has actually begun a totally new and different stage of life. This period allows students to improve their social skills and teach them to take responsibility. Students sometimes have to leave their home town or even their country for such a purpose. Consequently they learn how to cope with different situations and get along with their classmates and friends. This will make them more tolerant and considerate when they want to get married and have their own family. Besides, the society would also benefit from educated people. In the 21st century, if countries want to prosper or even survive in different occasions, they inevitably have to rely on their educated workforce.

All in all, I personally think no matter whether or not a person goes to university for job purposes, both the individual and society will meanwhile benefit in much broader ways.
