P.R. philanthropy

In a letter to John Adams, Thomas Jefferson wrote, "There is a natural aristocracy among men. The grounds of this are virtue and talents…. There is also an artificial aristocracy founded on wealth and birth, without either virtue or talents." The House of Windsor is in the second camp, but it has to pretend it's in both. It does so by engaging in P.R. philanthropy, which has its downsides.
