I feel like today joining, like, a powerful party just because they're simple and small where we would always be well prepared for the long winter darkness.

Not really. That use of "like" is very low register while the last clause is fairly high register. The reader is not sure whether "long winter darkness" is literal or metaphoric here. Is it something about people who live north of the arctic circle?
