Vocabulary

power

Hi,

I know that "product" is the result of multiplication. For example the product of 2 and 5 is 10. What is the result called when a number is multiplied by itself . For example ten to the power of two is 100. I want to know what the result (100) is called.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply.

If the number is multiplied by itself more than one time (when the power is greater than two), then what is the result called.

It would be a power of that number, e.g. X to the fourth power, or X to the power of four.
Edit: in the above example X would be the original number, multiplied by itself four times.

Compared to "product" or "sum" which are the result of multiplication and addition, can I use "power" to refer to the "result" of exponentiation?

Thank you!

You can, but consider that if you keep adding the same number to itself (5+5+5+5), the result has no special name. It is still a sum. Likewise, if you keep multiplying the same number by itself
