Postpone doing something

Hello,

Do the sentences below sound odd to you?

- It was an unpopular decision to postpone building the new hospital.

- My partner's not in town, and I need to discuss that with him. Can I postpone giving you an answer until he comes back?

I've heard that "postpone + gerund" sounds odd, but I don't know if that's 100% true, as the first sentence was taken from a dictionary.

Thank you.
