I find the word 'post-mortem' in the dictionary. But why can't I find the word mortem in any dictionary? Is it a English word? Normally, any words like this coined one can be separated into two parts, right?

Yeah, you're right. But why is there no word 'mortem'? Isn't it a English word?

Post and mortem are separate words in Latin.
But in English, post-mortem is a single word ((hyphenated).
