You know it stands for "post meridiem" (Latin for "after noon"), and you say you know when to use it, so I'm not sure exactly what else you need.

3 p.m. means 3 o'clock in the afternoon

7 p.m. means 7 o'clock in the afternoon

etc.

The following abbreviations are all used:

pm

p.m.

PM

P.M.

Your "p. m." is not correct.
