possible differences in tense in subordinate clause

Hi,
How are they different?

1.He walked in, thinking he could get some food from her.
2.He walked in, having thought he could get some food from her.

I feel no. 1 shows both the actions in the main and subordinate clauses occurring at the same time, but no. 2 doesn't necessarily show that.
