Possibility vs Opportunity

Hello!

Please, could you help me? My student asked me about the difference between "possibility" and "opportunity". I said "possibility" ~ "chance" (low possibility), "opportunity" ~ "choice" (wide opportunities). But still I'm not sure. Please, could you explain me the difference between these two words.

Thank you!

Maria D difference "opportunity" is much more specific. You can sometimes substitute "possibility" for "opportunity", but that's not often done. Going in the other direction, there are many cases where you use "possibility" and you cannot substitute "opportunity".
