Essay & Composition Writing

Possessive nouns

Hi,
I would like to ask, if it´s possible to say "on the abyss edge" instead of "on the edge of the abyss". I used this expression in a song lyrics, but I´m not sure how native speaker would feel about it. I know basic grammar rules, but what about the use of language in poetry/lyrics? Can I say it or is it just nonsense?
Thanks a lot!

You can say pretty much whatever you wish in poetry and song lyrics, just as long as the meaning gets through. You could write "on the abyss edge" in a song, but it would be incorrect to write it in casual and formal writing. At any rate, it's not nonsense.

  • I knew immediately what you meant.
