possessive and genitive

Are the terms the genitive and the possessive two different things?

Thank you.

Well, I use them interchangeably. I think 'possessive' has a wider connotation, and speaks more to the function of such words or forms, while 'genitive' more strictly refers to the unique case systems themselves.
