Possesives of nouns...help me out.

Ok I'm a little ashamed to say this--But sometimes I just don't know when to add an apostrophe.
For example:

Jim's car
Marius' Guitar
BUT..
Hotel room(why not hotel's room?)
Car's door (or car door)
Members' posts or members post?
How can I determine?!

I'm really lost with all of this(or these?) --Could someone please elighten me?

there are lots of threads about this, and... no answer there. There's no answer, you have to trust your ear... There could be some rules of thumb, but

This has already been discussed. It was said that it should be written as "Marius's", i.e. that only the plural nouns don't have "s" following the apostroph

This has already been discussed. It was said that it should be written as "Marius's", i.e. that only the plural nouns don't have "s" following the apostrophe and that names ending in "s" should have it, even though they end in "s".

Yep, but some people (I guess mainly Americans), write "Chris' car" even if they say it like "Chris's car"... That is, if a noun ends with an s, they only add an apostrophe even though they pronounce the additional s.
