Possesives and proper nouns

A student asked:

"When forming singular possessive nouns, we are told to add 's to make it Mr. Charles's car. However, we are also told to only add an ' to make Jesus' disciples. They are both proper nouns so why the different instructions to make the possessive form?"

Please help me answer this?

In general, it's simply a question of easy pronunciation.

Too many "Ss" in Jesus's disciples. It would be the same if it was Mr Charles's sausages.

Jesus' disciples

Mr Charles' sausages

is best.
