Possesive forms

what is the possesive form for the word "friends", which is in plural form? Is it friends's or friends'?

However, to avoid confusion on the part of the original poster, I think we should point out that when we use the plural possessive of "friend" it doesn't necessarily mean that the possessed object needs to be plural a

That is quite correct and a good point. If it were, say, a couple...Sally and Bill, and they had a dog, it would be, "My friends' dog was chasing the ball. or, "My friends' plan for the party was beginning to sound a bit wild for me.
