Positive terrain, flat note

The Sensex continues to trade in the positive terrain but on a flat note. Consumer durables, FMCG, auto and PSU stocks traded marginally higher, while IT and realty declined. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading above 2-month high.
At 11.50 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 13.02 points or 0.07% at 17,532.28 with 15 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 3.50 points or 0.07% at 5,249.40 with 28 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 12.21 points or 0.07% at 17,531.47, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 13.35 points or 0.25%, at 5,232.55.

Could you please explain to me the emboldened parts?

Positive/negative terrain could be described as high/low ground . It's as though the good trading (up) were a place. A flat (sour) note simply means that all is not rosy.

Thank you Avangi.

But I still can't understand it.
May I know what you mean by "good trading up were a place"? It might help me to understand it.

If I told you that trading in the stock market was bad yesterday but good today, I'd mean it was negative yesterday and positive today. The regular traders were losing money yesterday, but they were making money today.
Suppose I want to be picturesque, and describe "losing money" as a bad place, and making money as a good place. Where could those places be?
Actually, they exist only on
