positive match

Hello,

I'd like to know the meaning of the following sentence.

"The level of degradation was too severe for the doctor to get a positive match."

I understand as follows:

"The patient's condition became worse, so the doctor couldn't find a compatible donor for him."

Is it correct?

Thank you in advance,

Cheers,
