Positive bias

Equities were witnessing a choppy session with positive bias even as the India's Industrial Production grew in line with expectations. Index of Industrial Production for the month of January grew at 16.7% vs 17.6% a month ago. Manufacturing output was up 17.9%. April-Jan IIP showed growth at 9.6% (YoY). ( Watch )
"The sideways consolidation in the Nifty is maturing as the Index attempts to break past the resistance level of 5140-5180. The strength witnessed in last 40 minutes of the trading session along with premium in the futures segment depicted positive momentum built-up. On daily candlestick chart a range breakout is visible. Medium term trend remain bullish for the nifty with immediate support at 5080.

Could you please explain to me what "positive bias" means in this context?

Trading of a particular group of instruments is typically described as positive or negative (up or down.) A "bias" is a leaning, one way or the other. (A political bias, for example, would be to the left or to the right, etc.)

At the end of the day, "equities" would have presumably shown a gain in value, not a loss.
