Position of Preposition phrases

Do all the following three sentences mean the same? Where should I put the preposition phrase.

1- In India, people love to eat mangoes.

2- People in India love to eat mangoes.

3- People love to eat mangoes in India.

4 - Farmers are protesting in India.

5 - Farmers in India are protesting.

6 - In India, farmers are protesting.

Top answer

The others aren't wrong, but these are the best. People in India love to eat mangoes. Farmers in India are protesting.

  • The others aren't wrong, but these are the best.
  • People in India love to eat mangoes.
  • Farmers in India are protesting.
  • All of them can be construed as having the same meaning (within your two groups), but People love to eat mangoes in India can also have the somewhat odd meaning that people (from anywhere) love to eat mangoes when they are in India but not necessarily when they are elsewhere.
  • And by the way, a short introductory prepositional phrase (up to four or five words) does not usually take a comma.
