Pose/place

Hi!
1) Which is better in this context, 'place' or 'pose'?
2)Is the underlined phrase OK in the context of this scientific text?

3) Is the meaning clear?

It is very important to be aware of the CCS dilatator length since using this technique we wanted to pose/place the tip of the guide wire in level with tip of CCS dilatator.

Thank you in advance.
