I see it being used to refer to a collection of things owned by someone.

The word "portfolio" starts in about 1720 as a carrying case for papers. By 1930, it is sometimes used to mean the papers that are a person's financial investments: savings, bonds, shares and so on. The same can apply to an organisation instead of a person
