Pornography

I hope this thread is appropriate, but I have something that I don't understand. Emotion: stick out tongue

Last night I was watching family guy and someone said: "You made porno!" and then someone else told him that he should say "You made porn!" or "Porno" but not "You made porno". So what's up which that? Is it "porn" or "porno"? Because the complete word is pornography.

Thanks for the help! Emotion: wink

As an uncountable noun, **** and ***** are interchanageable. I don't find myself using this vocabulary very often. Family Guy can be very funny, but it can also be completely inane, vulgar, and disgusting.

There's nothing bad with disgusting stuff. I've actually learnt my English from television and the internet (Video games, forums and stuff), and it actually teaches you "Real English" - slang and stuff, pharses that you will actually use when talking to your friends, without sounding like a machine.

Television teaches you more than teachers. ;o

Anyway, thanks for your help.

I've heard both, so I don't understand what the joke was supposed to be. What they said makes no sense to me. I guess you had to be there.

Hi

I like Family Guy too

The joke may depend on a rather subtle street use of the two words..

"That's *****!" may be using the word as an adjective, to mean "That's obscene!"

"That's ****!" or "You made ****!" is using the word as a noun (referring to the actual pornographic material)

The joke is that the subtle difference seems irrelevant when you are

GG, I thought "****" was the uncountable noun - "He spends all his free time watching ****," but that "*****" meant a single movie and needed an article--as in "Zack and Miri Make a *****."

In other words, "****" is short for "***********," but "*****" is short for "pornographic movie."

But I certainly don't feel confident about these definitions.

Well, likewise.

He just sat on the couch all day watching "****" -- do you think you could say "*****" there?

Maybe you're right. He sat there watching the same ***** over and over. He sat there watching **** all day.

Could be.

Anyway, I really don't th
