Popped his clogs

Recently I have used "popped his clogs" in a number of different groups of people of varying social class, and in England it appears to be generally understood and unexceptional.

Question to non-British-Isles speakers of the language - do you understand what I mean when I say "popped his clogs"?

[nq:1]No. I might venture a guess, but absent context I'd almost certainly be wrong. Anything like "knocked his socks off" (but where "he" is the agent rather than the patient)? Or "flipped his lid"?[/nq]
Excellent. You are correct in you

Out of context, I would have said something akin to "blew a fuse" or "blew a gasket," but no, it's not immediately comprehensible to me.

Oh, my. I would have needed some serious context for that.

No problem. It's the same context as "popped his clogs", but taken from a slightly different perspective.

HTH.

I can see I was smarter just to wait for revelation.
