Poorly written?

1. The ship sunk

2. The gust sunk the ship.

3. When the verb is used intransitive, the subject of it corresponds to the object of it when it is used transitive.

I wrote #3; is it intelligible or poorly written?

However, this only applies to ergative verbs. It is usually not true:
