All involve hitting a cueball with a stick into other *****. Pool and snooker have pockets to sink, or hit the ***** into. There are many ways to play these games, 8-ball is popular in pool, 9-ball is common for pool tournaments.

Thank you very much for your explanation.

Longman dictionary indicates that snooker is mostly played in England.

As for Billiard, this game has also pockets at the edge of the table. (http://www.ldoceonline.com/dict

Pool and Billiard are the general terms which are called to the game involving that stick and several colored *****.

Pool is more American and Billiard is more British.

snooker just like 8-ball and 9-ball is a game which is played in pool.

Thank you very much Vorpar.

Thank you very much Siavash. So you say that there is no difference in the game itself. I wonder why dictionaries do not classify them as synonyms.

Thanks
