Poll vs. inquiry

Hi, could someone tell me if there's any difference between words Poll and Inquiry in terms of public questioning? Thanks.

Could you write the entire sentence and give the context you're trying to write about? A poll is when you ask a lot of people one or more questions on a specific subject, often to gather marketing data. A public inquiry is an investigation.

So a multiple choice or set of options is a poll?

I mean if somebody stops me on the streen and ask: Which do you like best: Windows or MAC or Linux? is a poll, yet the question Which operating system do you like best? is an inquiry, right?

No, a poll doesn't require multiple choice.

You can stop me on the street, tell me you're conducting a poll, and ask me "Which operating sysytem do you like best" without giving me choices. Often polls will give people limited choices so that the data can be more easily quantified, but it's not necessary.
