Politics???

Hi.
I have a question concerning the American history. People in the U.S., when voting for their presidents, they choose electors to represent them. On which basis the electors are appointed? Are their names mentioned along with the condidates?
Thank you in advance.

You have to remember that the United States is a federation of states, which are sovereign in the areas assigned to them by the Constitution. The Constitution makes the procedures for choosing the electors a matter for the state legislatures to decide. The only restriction is that federal officials, elected or appointed, may not be electors.

  • Every state determines which slate of electors it sends to the Electoral College (the term of art for the entire group of electors) by the popular vote in the Presidential election, and it would be politically impossible to change that now.
  • It is also left to each state to determine which particular persons become electors pledged to Presidential candidates.
