Hi,

When is "to the north of the city" and "in the north of the city" or "north of the city" used?

#1 is outside the city, but close to the city.

#2 is in the city. Better to say 'in the north part of the city'.

#3 is outside the city, an unspecified distance.

Best wishes, Clive
