Pointy elbow

Hi. I am translating a book and it says, "a gangly pointy-elbowed adolescent" Does it really talk about the physical feature of his elbow or does it have a different meaning?
Thanks in advance.

There is no particular idiomatic meaning. He is very thin, and that makes his elbows seem pointy. It's a physical feature.
