point out/set out

Hello,
I think both could be used in this sentence, but I would like to see what you think: "Jack said that the two examples were different, but he could not point out/set out the differences he had in mind." I am leaning towards point out.

If he just says what the differences are, without any further explanation, can we use point out? Can't we still use point out?
