Point of/in

What is the point in/of doing this ? Which alternative is correct ?

I have learnt it is inaccurate to say 'point of'.
When it comes to purpose, I would write the following:
There is no point in discussing politics in this forum.
[ Not point of ]
It seems it is fine by your vantage point.

Hi Rotter,

While I appreciate your view I still see nothing wrong with 'point' being used in combination with 'of' even when it's used to mean purpose.

Some dictionaries write 'point of'.
I must confess that I don't know everything in grammar.
