Hello all!
In these sentences:
1. From the East to the West I love you the best.
2. You're the girl that I love best.
What' the reason for (not) modifying "girl" by the definite article?

I'm not sure I understand your question. The is needed before girl because of the restrictive

Thank you, CB. I just made a mental error in my original post. I was interested in the usage of the article before "best", it is absolutely clear to me why it should be used before "girl". Sorry for that. Now, as I understand, both the article before "best" and that before "West" (as well as "East") are optional.
