Poetry? Prose? Punctuation?

On another message board, a conversation has arisen about punctuation. The poster says that punctuation performs the same function in prose as it does in poetry. I tend to think a little differently, but am unable to find anything written on-line about the matter.

I don't suppose anyone here could point me in the right direction?

Hi, Basically, punctuation should perform the same function in prose or in poetry. But to know how to use punctuations effectively in poems, I suggest you read some. Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about poetry.

I almost never use a period in my poems, though.
