I'm a grade twelve student struggling to decipher the theme in the poem "Television's Child" by Glen Kirkland (http://bclearningnetwork.com/LOR/media/comm11/2012-files/Unit5/televisions_child.pdf).
The following is the question listed in my assignment:How does the metaphor “His mind was a scrapbook of images that did not connect” develop the poem’s theme?
So far what I've gathered is that the boy has spent most of his time passively watching TV and has taken in a lot of content from what he's watched and seen. However, he's unable to form his own ideas, opinions or understandings of the world because he can't he cannot decipher the messages associated with the content.
