Under the time-honored "poetic juxtaposition" rule, articles (a, an, the) are dropped when two related entities are connected by a conjunction or preposition:
"left to right" "father to son" "mother and daughter" etc....
Does the same rule apply when 3 or more entities are involved? Could these:
"The tradition was passed from grandfather to father to son." "Grandmother, mother, daughter and granddaughter showed up at the party." be as correct as:
"The tradition was passed from THE grandfather to THE father to THE son." "THE Grandmother, THE mother, THE daughter and THE granddaughter showed up at the party." ?
