To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge. Learning is an ongoing process for one's life. As a 25 year old, I firmly believe that there is nothing better than gaining new knowledge or information on a day to day basis.

As most of my relatives live abroad therefore from childhood, I have been exposed to the terms "Travel & Tourism". We often used to visit airport and I would always dream about making my career in airlines or tourism sector.

After my senior secondary examinations got over, most of my friends were discussing which college to go to and which course to apply for whereas, I had something else in my mind. I wanted to gain experience and knowledge not only through classes and books, but also by working. I always used to enjoy interacting with people; therefore I took up job in service industry.

I started off my career from a call center of PVR. I learnt many aspects of people emotions. I learnt to handle difficult situations for example an irate customer. Then I worked with shoppers stop Pvt. Ltd. This job was more challenging as we had to interact face to face with people and understand their needs. This experience gave me the confidence to put my thoughts across to any person.

This was the time when I thought of my original dream; to have a career in tourism sector. I did a course of "Travel and Tourism" from "Trade wings Pvt ltd." At that point I joined a travel based firm as a trainee however I soon realized that travel sector was not providing any good opportunities and on the other hand Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry was a booming industry so like many other youngsters I opted a well known call centre, Convergys Pvt Ltd. Life drastically changed with ever challenging time schedules and target achievements. Through this experience I improved on my communication and negotiation skills.

The experience I gained during my work added a great deal of confidence in me but I also missed out on one thing, which was grades in my examinations, which I regret till date. However, I have learnt that studies and work always go hand in hand and neither one of them should be ignored in any case.

With the advent of 2010 common wealth games being organized in Delhi, Tourism industry will definitely develop in coming years. This is the right time for me to pursue study in Travel and Tourism, so that I could also grow in this industry and become a travel agent or tour operator in a well known Travel Agency. I would like to do ‘Graduate Certificate In Tourism Management’ from well known Thames Valley University because of the excellent faculty and emphasis on a collaborative environment with a global perspective to key issues. I hope to become the part of your University, which will help me in gaining a leading edge to work effectively in diverse teams and situations.
