"tens/thousands/millions" of dollars
"millions/trillions" of light years
"dozens" of victims
"hundreds of thousands" of years

Can anybody explain what is the amount in the above? (example: “Thousands” means any number from “1001 to 9999”?)

None of these is meant to be very accurate. When you see an expression like "hundreds of dollars", it just means a number of dollars that is most conveniently measured in hundreds (as opposed to thousands, say).
